Our Mission - For Kingdom and Coffee
What drives us here at Burning Oaks Coffee Company? As a family and Christian owned business we value ethical sourcing of our coffee beans, sustainability in our packaging and cups, and maintaining the highest quality possible while working to make a positive impact on our world.
These tenants are what we are building our vision upon:
1) Putting People First
We greatly value our employees and strive to be obedient to God’s orders of heeding worker’s rights. This looks like well-above “competitive” pay, flexibility with work schedules, engaged management with employee concerns and suggestions, training and growth opportunities, and promoting staff within the company rather than hiring outside of it.
(Ref: Deuteronomy 24:14-25 and James 5:4)
2) Rooted in Humility
Christians cannot both love God and love money, lifting it up as an idol. We have a deep love of building and developing the business through serving our customers and community with gratitude. We have goals and desires to increase our reach but are committed to remaining grounded as we continue to do so. Growth for the sake of the accumulation of wealth is indeed vanity, and we are committed to always put people before profits. We will build a foundation on high-quality coffee beans and simply delicious drinks, always keep quality a top focus. We will not cut corners with products, nor will we shortchange our employees.
(Ref: Ecclesiastes 5:10 and Luke 12:15)
3) Sharing Possessions
Utilizing a hand as an analogy, humans can either hold a clenched fist (hoarding possessions)or live with an open palm (sharing of possessions freely). What does this look like as a company?
First and foremost, we will stay attentive to the needs of our employees.
Second, we will continue to donate to local veterans’ organizations, which we have from day 1 of selling our freshly roasted coffee beans. Currently that is Operation Troop Appreciation in West Mifflin, who assists local veterans and supports deployed units with care packages.
Third, we will continue to donate freshly roasted coffee beans to smaller churches and organizations to fuel their ministry efforts for the Kingdom of God. Currently our beans are donated to Calvary Church in Irwin and Keystone Freewill Baptist Church in Greensburg.
Fourth, we desire to give directly to the impoverished communities of the world's children through donations to Compassion International. We will soon launch specific coffee beans that we will donate the proceeds from to Compassion, where we take no profit. More to come soon!
Finally, we will engage and give back locally to the areas the surround our business as we grow. Today that is the North Huntington and Irwin, PA area. We are currently selecting a local non-profit to donate a percentage of our Irwin Coffee Trailer sales towards.
(Ref: Matthew 29:39)
4) Community Formation and Engagement
We believe that a "divine economy" is one of interconnectedness and restoration to a broken world, brought about by the incarnation of the Word (Jesus) into every fiber of our existence. This type of economy runs contrary to the embedded and rooted
unjust systems that exist today. Our response to this is not resistance, but proclamation. Practically, speaking, that looks like engaging and elevating other small business. We aim to create publicly available workspaces for anyone that may need them, both for individual work and for group meetings or gatherings. As we grow, we aim to share our resources with others around us who aim to build up the Kingdom of God through their own businesses.
